At the 2016 Ghana Music Awards, Wizkid famously announced that he had signed Mr Eazi, Efya and R2bees to his record label, Starboy Entertainment.
A year later, Mr Eazi clarified that he wasn’t actually signed as an artist but as an “associate or business partner” instead.
Well, as it turns out, the “Skin Tight” singer has actually been signed to Grammy-winning producer, Diplo’s record label, Mad Decent, for a while now.
During an interview with Complex last week, Diplo casually announced that he had signed Mr Eazi on one of his recent concerts “all around the world”.
This revelation comes months after his group, Major Lazer helmed a remix of Mr Eazi’s biggest hit, “Leg Over” alongside French Montana and Ty Dolla $ign.
Speaking about his trip to Africa and how he
hopes Mr Eazi can inspire others, Diplo said:
“When I go out [to] somewhere like Africa, it’s not a business to me. I think to myself: ‘This place is changing rapidly. How can we help build it?’”
As for Mr Eazi, I just hope someone in America will hear him and then make different music.”
Last year, during an interview with Julie Adenuga to mark his coveted feature as Apple Music’s ‘Up Next’ artiste for the month of July, Mr Eazi revealed that he has recorded up to 12 songs with Diplo — who, according to him, first reached out via social media.
With all the international moves Mr Eazi has been making over the past year — from performing on the Late Late Show with James Corden to landing this deal with Diplo — it’s clear the singer’s star is rising at an impressive and somewhat unprecedented rate.
