Will Smith’s failures eventually led him to his success.
Will Smith’s 90’s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is beloved by many, and was what truly convinced the world that Smith was more than just a goofy rapper, but that he was also a skilled actor
Well according to Smith, none of that was the originally the plan, and that he only ended up doing the sitcom because he had run aground of the IRS.
Smith admits that he had wasted all of his money that he made from he and DJ Jazzy Jeff’s hit song, “Parents Just Dont Understand.” Having no money, and no way to pay his taxes, Will’s then-girlfriend gave him the advice to hang around the set of The Arsenio HallShow in order to make connections.
The advice was good, and Smith soon found himself in company with Qunicy Jones as well as NBC’s Brandon Tartikoff, which lead to an impromptu audition session and paved the way for Smith to star in his very own T.V. show, and then to become a famous movie star.
Now, just to be clear, you shouldn’t take Smith as an example of a career path to follow, as not everyone has the skills to be both a famous rapper and a famous actor. Most people can’t even do one, let alone both, so please make sure you pay your taxes instead of wasting all your money like Will did.
